Dawson City Medical

Dawson is a fun, healthy town of about 1500 with amazingly active outdoors and arts scenes (including the Dawson City Music Festival), and a vibrant First Nation.

We are located in West-central Yukon near the Dempster highway and beautiful Tombstone park, 600km North of Whitehorse.

There is a 6-bed hospital with 24h ER, and basic lab/X-Ray.  Docs do 24h home-call for ER, and are additionally in clinic for walk-ins M-F.  ER call is on average 1-in-4.  Weekdays 9-5 in clinic or ER are remunerated by contracted daily rate while after-hours and weekend billing is fee-for-service, plus an ER call stipend.  Housing, most travel, and licensing costs are provided.

Locums should be comfortable working in a rural, remote ER and have had ACLS, PALS, ATLS training.  There are no scheduled deliveries in Dawson but occasional unplanned births, so ALARM and NRP training or experience are helpful.  Licensure with the Yukon Medical Council and Hospital Privileges are required.

Most importantly, we are looking for like-minded locums who are willing to dig in and engage with our patients' problems, keep up our very low rates of narcotic prescribing, act as a pharmacist, counsellor, and social worker when needed, and be willing and able to coordinate care across long distances and with limited local resources!  A taste for wild mushroom and berry foraging, live music, mountain biking, hunting, motorcycling, or hiking will also make you a happy fit with our group!
